A Perfect Place to Unwind in Tokyo: My Visit to Arona Spa Hanare in Shinjuku

If you’re visiting Tokyo and looking for a place to relax after a long day of sightseeing, I highly recommend checking out Arona Spa Hanare in Shinjuku.
Tucked away in the lively Kabukicho area, this spa offers a calm, welcoming atmosphere that feels miles away from the busy streets outside.

Why I Decided to Try It

After days of walking, trains, and exploring Tokyo’s endless neighborhoods, my legs definitely needed a break. I searched for a Shinjuku massage that was traveler-friendly and found Arona Spa Hanare—many people mentioned it as one of the best spots for a massage in Tokyo.

So I booked a session online (super easy!) and headed over.

A Warm Foot Bath to Start

One of the things that makes this spa unique is that every treatment begins with a complimentary foot bath.
Honestly, this was one of my favorite parts. After warming up my feet, I could feel my whole body start to relax. It’s such a simple touch, but it really sets the mood for the rest of the experience.

Private & Couple-Friendly Rooms

The massage itself takes place in a private room, which is great if you want a quiet, personal space to unwind.

If you’re traveling with your partner or a friend, they also offer pair rooms—perfect for a couples massage in Tokyo or a shared moment of relaxation in between your adventures.

The Massage Experience

My therapist was kind, attentive, and very skilled. I chose an oil treatment, and it was exactly what I needed to recover from the days of walking around shrines, parks, and shopping streets.
It’s the kind of massage where you walk out feeling lighter, calmer, and ready to take on Tokyo again.

How to Book

Booking is simple, and I recommend using the online reservation system—especially if you don’t speak Japanese.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Phone reservations are only for guests with a Japanese phone number who speak Japanese.
  • If you’re booking for two or more people, each person needs to make their own reservation.
  • Make sure to read the notes and cancellation policy before confirming.

Other Locations Across Tokyo

If you’re staying closer to Shibuya or Harajuku/Omotesando, Arona Spa has sister locations there as well. It’s convenient no matter where your Tokyo itinerary takes you.
